Anyone have a design they particularly like? Grilling season is upon us, and the 'kit' bench/tables I built when I was first starting out are long overdue for replacement.

I saw an octagonal plan that I like, have to see what the CFO says... my clod-hopper feet don't do traditional tables easily or well, so I like the access of the octagonal.. except it is a bit small, I might expand the design a bit, make it 5' across instead of 4'. etc...

Pictures, links, pros/cons gratefully accepted.

Built this porch coffee table out of cypress a few years ago. Just a small design idea. Could be scaled up/modified to suit. Wheels on 2 legs to make it easy to move. You'd need to make benches or something to sit on.

Here's a table I built about 4 years back. One of my early projects. Made from redwood. The legs are from a single 4x4x8' post. the outer ring is made from 2x6, and the inner field and aprons are from 1x4, and the X center is from 2x4.

I havent made a picnic table but, I did make a poker table a few years ago. :D
Point being, it has eight sides and is 53" across flat to flat. I wouldn't go much larger than that. A setting person can just reach the center at full reach. Can't have the catsup or napkins too far out of reach when you are hungry! :D (or the chips when you win a hand :D )
I post this because I know that it is too easy to think that "bigger is better" until you put something to use and find it is not at all practical.
Also, eight sides makes for good elbow room and seating. Seating can be anything from a chair or bench to even just a stool. :-D
