This weekend is the spring showcase at the Portland convention center. The place with those "bright" rugs".

There will be potters, weavers, glass workers, jewelry makers, bead workers, and Oh yeah, Woodworkers from all over the west coast!!!

Show hours are 10 am till 9 pm friday and saturday. and 10 till 5 on sunday. Admission is free!

If you can make it, stop by the guild booth for a visit!

Hey Popeye,

Dang it! These things always seem to happen when I'm scheduled to be out of town. Take some pictures for us, will you? I wish I could go.

Tom

Here are a few highlights from the Portland show.

Image
See "hand carved chest"

This is a hand carved chest made by Lee Johnson

Image
See "polymer infused box"

This box has a polymer infused finish, the proscess penetrates completely thru the wood. The cost of the infusion is about $32.00 B.F

Image
See "bombay front entertainment center"

This is a bombay front entertainment center made by Don DeDobbeleer of Precision Woodworking

Image
See "wine cabinet"

Some wine cabs by George Essades

There is one other picture in "my gallery" of a slip matched dining room table by Don, but for some reason the pic wouldn't load to the post.

Sales were very slow again this year, but there was no lack if talent.

beautiful-- simply beautiful Thank you for sharing the pics

If anyone is interested in the poly infused finishes, it is possible to do small pieces yourself with a venturi vacuum ($15), paint pot ($100) and resin you get from arts and crafts stores. Penmakers quite often use the process to stabalize pen blanks. The penturners forum goes into great detail on the process (I've not tried it yet)

You can see better pictures of the work they do by visiting their websites. Bill who does the infused boxes and furniture is at www.bolstadboxes.com and Don's website is www.finecustomwoodfurniture.com
