That's like, way too colorful.
How about "Brian Black"?
This is an end table I finally finished for my parents. The base is ash painted black and the top is cherry with a few gel stains (mahogany, nutmeg) with a satin Arm-R-Seal top coat.
I take very little credit for the design. I made this to match their existing Ethan Allen coffee table and small triangular table. My mom was using a TV tray as an end table on her side of the couch. I told her I could make something that matched the rest of their furniture. All the sizes/dimensions were taken from their other table. I only made the top apron a little bigger so I could accommodate a drawer.
It's fairly small . . . the top is about 14" x 24" . . . just a nice little table for the end of the couch.
There were a couple "firsts" for me. First time using dowels. I used them to attach the slats to the shelf and apron. While I would love to have an accurate doweling jig, I went with a very cheap one, and it worked fairly well.
First time trying that type of drawer slide. It went ok, until I tried the final fit of the drawer. After an hour and a half of wrestling with it, I finally realized my runners were a little thick on one end. Now it slides very smoothly.
And for the first time, I tracked all my time spent, from design, to buying lumber to final finishing and fitting. Total time . . . . 26 hours!
Here was my Sketchup plan:
Next up, a baby gate and a piano bench for some friends. Then it's on to building a bed for my 2 year old, and then a changing table for my (just found out yesterday) daughter coming in September!
