OK, so say you are using a vertical panel raising bit or a lock miter bit on a router table. I just was

I need to build a push jig that will allow me to push a vertical workpiece along my fence through the router bit.

Anyone have any ideas?

I did something similar recently. Used a chunk of 2x4 with a short 1/4" ply heel screwed on it that catches the trailing edge of the workpiece. Allows you to keep pressure towards the fence while the heel pushes the piece thru the bit. The heel also gets chewed up by the bit, but that's ok since it also prevents tear out.

In the March issue of Woodsmith Magazine there is a tip in the front for just such a jig, although it's designed to be used on the TS and as such has one leg longer so that it rides in the miter gauge slot. You could do a quick adaptation of it by takeing some 3/4" ply and making an H with the cross bar just above the table. Then and another piece across the top that overhangs and becomes the pusher that also will hold the stock against the fence. The one they show has the top adjust able with a pair of knobs that ride in slots in the top and screw into the outer vertical piece. Being that this is to be used for routing operations, I'd also add a sacrificail backer board on the back end to help prevent blowout. Wish I had a pic I could send you.

Let me know how it works for you. Technique is similar to using Grippers on a jointer - be careful you don't force the piece into the gap between the bit and fence (assuming you have a split fence ).
