Turned on the DC today to make a couple cuts. It wound up as normal and then I heard this loud - THUMPIDY, THUMP, THUMP. Then it went away and everything was normal. But it bothered me. Thought it might have been a chunk of wood that got sucked up so opened up the manifold (Medusa) - nope nothing there. Went outside to check the outlet and blades - everything fine (for those who don't know, I don't use a bag, just eject everything outside from the blower).

Then I noticed this furry little body laying on the dust pile a couple feet from the outlet, somewhat the worse for wear.

Yep. Somehow Mr. (or Ms, I didn't check the plumbing ) Mouse had gotten into the system, and when I turned it on, the obvious result occurred. Never had that happen before.

So I'm thinking to myself; "Self, you should patent this". The proverbial "better mouse trap", now with automatic disposal.

Similar experience with my DC, where the can catches the stuff before it gets to the impeller. Guess she had set up house inside the dust manifold on my 6x48/12" Jet sander, because I found some nesting material and squash seeds - they nibble my winter squash, the buggers - in it afterward. She was running and scrambling inside the can before she met her fate.

I don't use the sander often, but I remember to check now.

"automatic disposal and composting machine"

Might have a snake in there next time. They follow the mice. I had a similar thumping not long ago when I started the tractor. Sliced and diced a snake.

So, that is a good story, Gene...And I have a good one as well. Apparently a threesome of mice had made a nest on top of the spiral cutting head on my 24" planer. You can probably see where this is headed...I turned on the planer and instant mouse burger. It was so gross to clean up. So...yes your mousetrap is better. Disposal and no guts to clean up.

Understandable. They also have a rodent problem.

Out of all the mangled mess...3 tails.

It took me over an hour to clean it up. And yes I recommend checking machines often. Mine was just over a weekend. Go figure.
