This is cool! The Precision Story Tape: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx ... 3513,43516

Quote:
Emboldened by the success of 2005's VeritasĀ® Dodeca-Gauge, we've been working long and hard on furthering our product offering in the realm of referential measurement. Having converted internally to a completely referential system, we found our own extensive collection of story sticks was not only becoming cumbersome to archive, but rapidly rising shipping costs and length surcharges made shipping story sticks back and forth between sub-contractors prohibitively expensive. Clearly, just as libraries moved to putting newspapers on microfilm to rationalize storage space, we had to find a way to do something similar.

I'm hoping that one of these years they will come out with a woodworkers version of a Swiss Army knife. Something that goes far beyond the usual carving jack.

You can actually order these. Go to Page 2 and it tells you that it's actually available.

To me, it makes complete sense. No more having to look for that piece of paper that you had the measurements on. A perfect example. The bedroom set I'm building. I intend to use several of the same measurements on the big dresser that I used on the end tables.

On the other hand, I guess you could go buy some cheap tape measures and do the same thing with them.

I just can't make up my mind! :-?

Should I go with the 12' Imperial, the 3.65m Metric or the 7.34 Cubit? I'm thinking the cubit, for that rush ARC job I just got. :D :D :D

I like it!!! :) If you are as blind as I am, all those little black marks just make my tape look grey anyway! However, I do enjoy seeing the red marks that are on there every so often. :)

The scariest thing is how much I usually desire the things Lee Valley puts out on April Fools day.... I guess this says something about how low on the scale something has to be to be a "must have!" for me :)
