Just finished this Stickley #79 Magazine Stand. It's a fairly small piece about 42" in height and about 11" wide and deep. It's constructed from walnut that was harvested and milled out in East Texas. Thanks for looking.

Nice looking stand! Too bad you missed the contest last year for magazine racks.
My Bro. "Amateur Bill" won that one with a very clever design made of cherry.

Check out "Scrap Pile" ...."Magazine rack Contest Results (prizes)" Saturday November 7 2009.

Very nice Tom! the Walnut looks great on this classic Stickley design. I made a couple of these in Cherry a few years ago and they are very useful pieces of furniture.

I love it, Tom. Simple, and a great way to show off the great grain in the walnut.

It reminds me of a walnut bookcase my father made in high school woodshop in the 40's. Yup, it's still in use and still looks great!!

Tom, where did you get the walnut?

My source in Dallas dried up last year. I got some from Grey's Sawmill in Durant. I am still llooking for sources that have the right stuff at the right prices.

John - the walnut was given to me. I've sold a few furniture pieces out in Ben Wheeler, TX. There's a group of artists/crafts people in that town and I've gotten to know one of the store owners. Another guy bought the walnut tree and milled the lumber. It's been stored in a barn out there for the last couple of years. The store owner got a couple of boards from him and gave them to me to make some items to put in his store. That's where the magazine stand is headed. It's beautiful walnut, air dried, and works really great. I really don't know if I'll get anymore. Have you checked the walnut at Mission Timbers in Sanger? He has some local walnut from time to time but don't know the current prices.

Here's a picture of the 2 walnut boards that came from Ben Wheeler:

WoW Tom!

Nice book rack. I'd say that's just about a perfect execution.

The boards were very impressive!
