So it's been a while since I've made any serious dust but that is changing. I finially got the shopsmith working and stopped in to see a friend at the sawmill. Picked up a large 2"x 16" by 6' of fresh cut cherry to make some router bowls from and mentioned that I've been doing some turning as well. He reached down and gave me a piece of walnut 4"x4"x 16" and said " can you use this?" So I got some lathe time and drill press time in.
It had some serious cracks in it and my aim was to see if I could really do this. I got the directions form this website . It was easier than I thought it would be, at least unitll I started to sand the insides. I did not spend to much time on getting out all of the turning marks and just a few coats of tounge oil. still need to buff it out a bit.
Now the wife thinks that it'll make a good pair of lamps

Nice work! Now it sounds like the fun really begins. Making another one JUST like the first. Always fun making duplicates. Really nice work Jim, and it's good to see you back and busy.

Thanks Ice
This piece was a one off. It came from a scrap piece of 4x4 walnut the guy had laying around the lumber yard and was full of cracks. I may try and match it if I can get time, but future plans is for a set of lamps. so says swmbo

Jim, took a few minutes to check out the web site. Thanks for posting that. I may be tempted to try my hand at this. 8)
